Halloween
Is there anyone who doesn't enjoy Halloween? Who as a kid didn't get excited with trick or treat, the fun of getting into costume and receiving sweets and candy just for showing up? I grew up in Scotland and it was a big deal. We didn't just go to doors, open a bag and receive. We had to perform (I wonder why this performer loved it so much?).... I would often sing, sometimes I would tell a joke but we always started by saying "the sky is blue, the grass is green, please may I have my Halloween".
I look back with fondness at those times and I also revel in the energy of the supernatural, the closeness to afterlife, the space and the veil between now and what comes next. I've always been fascinated with witchcraft and spells. Scotland is seeped in history and ghost stories are abundant (I have a few of my own). So as a photographer, getting to capture this energy feeds not only my artistic side but the kid in me who wants those grand and lavish customs back.
